I wrote an article in Soccer Coach Weekly, November 19 about how you coach the chip in soccer. The technique is all about timing and the swing of the leg.
The clip here demonstrates the chip perfectly. It’s Ronaldinho’s first goal for AC Milan in the MIlan derby, and is a super move started and finished by Ronaldinho, but the chip by Kaka that sets him up is a perfect example of how to do it. The timing, height, distance and technique are exquisite.
I have to say the initial pass to set Kaka free by Ronaldinho and the resulting header are both excellent examples of technique. The switch by Ronaldinho and the leap and hang in the air to hammer the ball into the net make it a goal to savour.
